Greensboro, Ga. (July 21, 2009) - The Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA) will hold the 21st staging of the Top 60 Women's Classic at Reynolds Landing Golf Club, July 29-30, 2009.
The event was established in 1989 to showcase the top female amateur golfers in Georgia. The field is determined by handicap index, with the 60 lowest entrants receiving positions in the field. The field is divided into five flights (Championship and first through fourth). All participants play from the same tees and are eligible for the overall title. Entries are open to female amateur golfers who are Georgia residents and members of a GSGA Member Club.
"We have been fortunate this year to host the Linger Longer Invitational men's collegiate tournament, the Southern Junior Championship and now the GSGA Top 60 Women's Classic," said Scott Justman, head golf professional at Reynolds Landing. "It has been an honor to watch the tremendous competition between some of the best amateur golfers in the country."
Leigh Crosby of Athens, Ga., carded a final-round 77 to finish with a one stroke victory over Suwanee's Kendall Wright at the 2008 Top 60 Women's Classic, played at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega, Ga. "This win feels so good after finishing as the runner-up a year ago (2007)," said Crosby. "I cannot wait to come back and defend this one."
The event is open to the public and spectators are welcome.
