Greensboro, Ga. (March 19, 2008) - The 26th-ranked Ole Miss men's golf team held off two-time defending champion, Georgia, to win the 3rd annual Linger Longer Invitational, held at the Reynolds Landing Golf Course on Lake Oconee. The University of Georgia, currently ranked 2nd in the country, finished five shots back. 24th-ranked Tennessee-Chattanooga took third place.
Senior David Marino led Mississippi with his best 54-hole tournament finish, taking third overall with a 67-77-69 - 213. His first-round 67 was a career low. The rest of the Ole Miss team included Johnny Delprete, Jonathan Randolph, Jesse Speirs and Kyle Ellis, whose final round included a double-eagle on the par-5 14th hole.
Robbie Greenwell, from the University of Memphis, won the individual title, shooting 68-68-72 - 208.
"We were thrilled with the high-caliber players who brought their best game to the Linger Longer Invitational," said Scott Justman, head professional at The Reynolds Landing Golf course. "The Course provided a challenging layout and we enjoyed an exciting three days of competition."
Hosted by Mercer University, the Invitational featured 13 teams including the University of Georgia, Clemson, University of Mississippi, South Alabama, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, University of Michigan, Purdue University, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Texas Tech, University of Memphis and Mississippi State University.
